I Am A Heart Attack

My friends at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC, are pulling out all the stops when it comes to promoting heart health in 2013. They've produced a new television commercial designed to make a big impact. Within the commercial, the viewer meets his or her future heart attack. The concept for the commercial involves the personification of the heart attack, i.e., the heart attack as person. It speaks to us and tells several ugly truths.

Screen shot 2013-01-28 at 9.11.23 PMThe VP of Marketing at Lexington Medical Center, Mark Shelley, is a friend of mine and a client. He is very close to the issue, having lost his father to heart disease several years ago. Mark also lives with Type 1 diabetes and high blood pressure. And he is the first to admit that he hasn't always taken great care of himself, while knowing full well that there is a high cost to pay for unhealthy lifestyle choices. As Mark said in a recent Facebook post: "Even as educated as I am about the importance of a good diet, exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, limiting or eliminating the use of alcohol and all other lifestyle recommendations made by healthcare experts, I often live life in a state of denial. I, like many, succumb to the short-term benefits and immediate gratification of living in the moment."

That's why it is powerful to me that Mark and his team created this impactful television spot about heart disease. It is educational, and a little scary. I congratulate Mark and the marketing team at LMC for creating such an strong piece of marketing. This commercial will make a difference in someone's life - of that I have no doubt. Check out the spot below:
